Can you say HUGE DAY? I sure can, and is sure was. We started the day with 3 of our kids participating in the Country Music Marathon with our new best friend Zac Koffler. Zac asked me 6 months ago if he could raise money and awareness for ABLE Youth by pushing some of our smaller kids in the marathon. OF COURSE I said yes. Zac's goal was to raise $20,000. Zac raised over $21,000. Wow, what a guy, what a day, what a race. MANY thanks to Braden, JayRod, Fiona, Amy, the parents, and ZAC!
As if that was not enough, we also held our inaugural 3 on 3 Able Bodied Wheelchair BasketBRAWL. 8 corporate teams pad $1000 each to play. We let them use our sports chairs, and the players had a BLAST. Some teams were playing for fun, others to win at all cost. Each team was coached by members from our Thunder kids wheelchair basketball team. The corporate teams were from HCA/Tristar, Fleet One, Bold Construction, Starbucks Coffee Company, The EDGE Group, First Tennessee Bank, and STAR Physical Therapy. Other sponsors were Walgreens, redpepper, Lipscomb University, Ed Medical, and John Mayfield Foundation. We were also blessed to have EDDIE GEORGE come and participate in the event. What a nice man, who took time out to shake hands and take pictures with all who asked. Thanks to the awesome Belmont OT ladies (and guys) for volunteering, and to all who made this day possible.
AS IF THIS WAS NOT ENOUGH, after the 3 on 3 we celebrated the Basketball and Cheerleader Seaon with our annual year end party. Following pizza and salad Dan and Evan said nice things about their respective players and each player received a plaque and pin with the motto for next year....TEAMWORK.
Which is EXACTLY what it took for this day to be so successful....TEAMWORK! Thank you God, for putting such incredible people in the lives of ABLE Youth. Now, it's time for a nap!.....
